Encanto director Jared Bush has a debunked a fan theory that suggested Mariano (Maluma) is a descendant or ancestor of the characters in
Moana.
Encanto premiered on November 24, 2021, and critics received it very positively. The film follows the extraordinary Madrigal family, who have been blessed by the magic created from Abuela’s (María Cecilia Botero) candle when she fled her home with her children and lost her husband. The candle has given every child in the family a special gift, except for Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz). However, when the candle’s magic starts to wane, Mirabel may be the only one who can save it.,Meanwhile, Disney’s
Moana premiered in 2016 and follows the tale of a spirited young Polynesian girl, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho), who is chosen to return an artifact known as the heart of Te Fiti that was stolen by the demigod Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). If she can return the heart of Te Fiti, she can end the blight that has struck her island and save her people. In
Moana, the heart of Te Fiti is depicted as an ancient green gemstone, small enough to fit inside a necklace. Hence, when viewers spotted Mariano’s mother wearing a necklace with a green stone, they wondered if it was the same as Moana’s stone.,Related: Encanto Theory Reveals Casita Knew Exactly When It Was Going To Die,Bush took to Twitter to debunk the theory that Mariano bears a connection to Moana. A Twitter user asked him if the necklace means that Mariano is an ancestor or successor of Moana. Bush replied stating that the necklace isn’t the same stone seen in
Moana, but is an emerald, which is very common in Colombia. Check out his tweet below:,Click here to view the original post.,The idea that the stone in
Encanto and the one in
Moana were the same wasn’t too far-fetched a theory. After all, Disney is known for often throwing fun Easter eggs into their films that reference other films in the franchise. As a matter of fact,
Encanto did reference
Moana in a joke Camilo (Rhenzy Feliz) makes, so there are some connections. Meanwhile,
Encanto’s opening song, “The Family Madrigal” was inspired by the opening of
Beauty and the Beast. Still, though, to posit that Mariano is related to Moana seems to go above a fun Easter egg or minor reference. Viewers have long speculated that every Disney film is connected, but it has never been proven. Even if Moana and Mariano somehow were related, it makes little sense why his family would take the stone that was returned to revive Te Fiti.,Fortunately, Bush shed some light on this fan theory and pointed to it being an interesting cultural detail instead of an Easter egg. It is also not the first time that Bush has debunked or confirmed a fan theory. Bush also recently shed light on Dolores’ (Adassa) depiction on Casita’s door, stating that she was merely content and at peace, rather than sad as fans suggested. Still, there are likely to be plenty more interesting details that viewers latch on to as
Encanto continues to grow in popularity. Meanwhile, Bush always seems open to either confirming a true Easter egg or debunking a misinterpreted detail in
Encanto.,More: Encanto Theory Makes Isabela Much More Powerful Than She Realizes,Source: Jared Bush
