De La Salle University survived a late scare to dethrone Ateneo de Manila University, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23, and secure the last Finals ticket Thursday in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.,Thea Gagate lorded it over at the net as she paced the solid frontline of the Lady Spikers with 13 points coming off eight attacks, four kill blocks and an ace.,The Taft-based squad will march back into the court on Saturday against the unbeaten National University in the best-of-three Finals.,Aleiah Malaluan finished with 16 points with all but one coming off attacks while Joline dela Cruz added 13 points spiked with 13 excellent receptions and seven digs for an all-around performance for the Lady Spikers.,La Salle almost squandered a comfortable, 22-15, lead as the Blue Eagles behind Faith Nisperos and Erika Raagas rallied to breathe down the Lady Spikers’ necks.,Gagate pushed DLSU at match point, 24-22, but Raagas answered with a kill to keep Ateneo’s hopes alive.,The Lady Spikers finally sealed the win after Malaluan smashed a crosscourt kill to knock the crown off Ateneo’s head.,Nisperos was the only Ateneo player in double digits with 19 points anchored on 17 kills while Raagas posted nine markers.
