TACLOBAN CITY–Seven soldiers were wounded when a landmine believed to be planted by the communist New People’s Army exploded in Brgy. Magsaysay, Mapanas, Northern Samar on Tuesday, 5 July 2022.,Maj. Gen. Edgardo De Leon, commander of the 8th Infantry Division, said the soldiers belonging to the 63rd Infantry Battalion were conducting a security patrol in the village at around 6:15 a.m. when the blast occurred.,De Leon said the soldiers were augmenting the Community Support Program (CSP) teams of the 20th IB in doing the community immersion.,De Leon condemned the communist attack as a “blatant violation” of the Ottawa Convention (Mine Ban Treaty) that prohibits the use, stockpiling, production, and transfer of anti-personnel landmines.,De Leon also took a swipe at an earlier call of communist leader Jose Maria Sison for the resumption of the peace talks between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front.,“Paano natin bubuhayin ang peace talks kung ang isang panig ay walang ginawa kundi mag-violate ng karapatang pantao at ng international humanitarian law?” he said., ,
